Maui Land & Pineapple Company, Inc. (MLP) announced the company recently agreed to lease a 5-acre parcel in Napili to the Maui Mountain Bike Coalition for the state’s first free community bike park on privately owned land.
“The Maui Mountain Bike Coalition have been dependable stewards of our land for many years and because of that, we are happy to partner with them in creating this bike park,” said Maui Land and Pineapple Company CEO Race Randle. “It is our hope that the park will serve as a safe gathering place for West Maui children.”
This initiative comes at a crucial time as West Maui continues to recover from the devastating August 2023 fires, which impacted recreational areas beloved by residents. The bike park represents an initial step towards rejuvenation and rebuilding.
“Aligned with our mission to address the critical needs of our community, we are grateful for projects such as these that will foster stability and connection for local families during this time,” added Randle.
The Maui Mountain Bike Coalition has enlisted the expertise of Cam Zink, renowned in the mountain biking community for his recent victory at the 2023 Redbull Rampage. Zink's company, Sensus RAD Trails, will oversee the construction of bike-specific trails within the park.
To support this endeavor, the coalition has launched a crowdfunding campaign to cover expenses such as land clearing, permits, equipment rentals, fuel, and labor. Tax-deductible donations can be made through MMBC’s GoFundMe page.
